The latest event in FIDIC’s annual webinar series will take a look at one of the most widely used forms of construction professional services contract currently being used globally.

The webinar, The classic contract for clients and consultants: Seven years of the FIDIC 2017 White Book, organised by the FIDIC Contracts Committee on Tuesday 9 April 2024, will review the use of the FIDIC White Book Client/Consultant Model Services Agreement, the fifth edition of which was published in 2017. The White Book is a key part of the FIDIC suite and is one of the most widely used forms of professional services contract internationally.

The FIDIC White Book represents the basic form of a contract of appointment between a client and the consultant. The book, which is well regarded for its fair balance of risk between the client, is intended to cover the minimum requirements of a typical appointment contract. It is suitable for general use for the purposes of pre-investment and feasibility studies, detail design, and project management and administration of construction, both for employer-led design teams and for contractor-led design teams on design and build commissions.

Speakers at this webinar will reflect on the use of the White Book in the marketplace over the past seven years, drawing out lessons for users, FIDIC and the wider industry. Experts will highlight the main features of the White Book, including the reasons why it occupies such a strong sale ranking within the FIDIC suite of contracts, and examine the main benefits of using it, reflecting international best practice and ensuring consistency with the rest of the FIDIC suite of contracts.

Speakers at the webinar will include representatives of parties who work closely with the White Book, including an employer, engineer, legal expert and an insurer who will share their experiences of using this leading FIDIC contract. Given those involved in the speaker line-up, an interesting and insightful discussion is guaranteed which will certainly highlight the different facets of the FIDIC White Book and why it remains so popular in the construction contracts arena.

The speakers at the webinar are as follows: -

  • Vincent Leloup, Founder & Managing Partner, Exequatur, Member, FIDIC Contracts Committee
  • James Mwangi, CEO, Kurrent Technologies, Vice President FIDIC
  • Jafar Khan, Assistant General Counsel – Group, Mott MacDonald
  • Pieter Mattelaer, Deputy Group Leader - Project Portfolio Management, CERN
  • Stephen Davey, Partner, Professional Indemnity, Lockton

Speakers will draw on their experiences of using the White Book from the perspective of the client, engineer, lawyer and insurance expert. This will offer attendees an all-round view of the use of the contract over the past seven years and the benefits it brings to projects and the client-consultant appointment process.

This free webinar is a must-attend event for all those working with the FIDIC White Book and indeed anyone with an interest in the international construction contract arena.
